Spring Break 2010

The Kall family did not do much this spring break. Mainly because of this:

Steve had his tonsils and adenoids removed, his deviated septum fixed, his palate shaved and his uvula shortened. Basically, a complete nose/throat overhaul that he has been putting off for years so that he can sleep better. It was a pretty rough recovery, and he had it done two and a half weeks before spring break. He missed a lot of work and needed to be there the week of spring break.

So the boys and I decided to go camping!!!

That setting might look familiar to a few of you. Well, that's because it's our backyard!!! ha ha. We set up our new tent in the back yard and roasted hot dogs. The boys and their friend Jeremy slept outside. Everyone, that is, except Charles. He snuck into his bed in the middle of the night. He said it was scary.

A few days later we went to the Omni Imax theater in Ft Worth along with the rest of Dallas/ Ft. Worth, it seemed. We saw a show in the dome theater. We got there a little late because of the crazy traffic and ended up on the front row where you have to be in an almost prone position. It was still pretty fun though!!

Our next adventure was actually visiting the "Mound" of Flower Mound. Thomas needed to go there as part of a little research project for school. Isn't it just a lovely spot??

It actually is much higher than it looks from the street, but there were very few flowers on the mound when we were there. I guess it was a little too early still.
After our research was complete, we decided to do some geocaching. We started this last summer, and even though we haven't done it in a long time, we are getting pretty good at it.

And just like last summer, Joshua, Charles and I had a lot of fun. Thomas doesn't enjoy it as much. We end up bribing him with Sonic drinks so he won't whine. He did get excited when he found one, though...

That night, we had one last "camp" night with Charles's buddy James.

Someday we will actually take the kids camping. We have to since I just learned that camping is on Joshua's "bucket list" How sad. We have only talked about it now for the last three years!!!

We capped off the week and the first day of spring with this.

UGH!!! Nobody around here is even a little bit excited to see snow. We are all looking forward to some REAL spring weather. But, we did have a great spring break!

Elementary Art Show

Joshua's coil basket was chosen for the annual LISD Elementary Art Show. This was a pretty big deal to him because art is not his thing. He has never been chosen for this before, so he was excited to get the honor his last year in Elementary School.

As you can see, he really did make a beautiful basket. Steve, the boys and I all thought his basket was pretty cool while he was making it at home. Then when we saw the other baskets that arrived at school from all the 5th graders, we realized his really WAS outstanding. He did a great job making it look so smooth and perfect.

This was one of those projects that took multiple trips to Michaels and quite a few hours of work at home to get it completed on time, only to find out the art teacher extended the deadline since nobody was finished!!! Regardless of his frustration with that, he did beautiful work and we are proud he got to be showcased at the art gallery.
